While others are getting ready to break out their snow skis, SLHS Freshman Grace Fischmann is busy lacing up her pointe shoes. At the end of the month, Grace will be performing a number of roles in Pinkerton Ballet Theatre’s “The Nutcracker Ballet.”
A beloved holiday tradition, Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” is performed every year by numerous ballet companies all over the world. From globe-trotting companies, to local dance studios, “The Nutcracker” is a rite of passage for many young dancers who work their way up through the ranks of the fantastical roles within the ballet. Grace, who has been dancing ballet since she was 2 years old, is performing a number of roles with the corps de ballet, including Snowflake, Arabian, and Marzipan. But this year – her third year to dance in the ballet – she will also dance a number of solos, including Clara’s Best Friend, Angel Princess, and Flowers Duet.
An “A” student, Grace balances homework with hours of dance practice. Her work ethic and determination are not only present in the classroom, but in the dance studio as well. SLHS is extremely proud of this pirouetting Falcon.
