Overview
During 2021, members of the math, science, and fine arts professional learning communities (PLCs) at SLHS interfaced with members of the Governor’s Office of Science, Innovation, and Technology (OSIT) in order to take the first steps in creating and maintaining a progressive campus science and technology program consistent with 21st century educational best practices in accordance with the school’s mission and vision. A self-assessment was completed regarding STEM at Sierra Lutheran High School with the guidance of the Director of STEM at the Governor’s OSIT office. Concurrent with the self-assessment, the SLHS’s Director of STEAM analyzed STEM programs at Lutheran schools across the country. The recommendation of the Math/Science/Fine Arts PLC was to institute a STEAM certificate at SLHS. The SLHS Board of Directors approved this recommendation in March 2022.
Eligibility for the SLHS STEAM certificate will begin with students from the Class of 2023.
